I need a solution

Dears,

Very strange as it looks, I am trying to upgrade a media server appliance from 2.5.3 to 2.6.0.2 and it fails. In the logs I can see following --

Checking for required system conditions...

ok nbdb_ntfs_dir_symlink: inapplicable on linux: skipping
not ok remote_emm: Remote EMM configuration is detected.
  Master Server is JUM-NBU-5230B;
  EMM Server is jum-bkup-05.
As of NetBackup 7.6, Symantec no longer supports NetBackup
configurations in which the Master Server and the EMM Server are on
  different hosts.  See

      https://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH206478

  for more information.

Its says master server is JUM-NBU-5230B(The media Appliance I am upgrading) where it is NOT !!!!!!

Here is the bp.conf

5230 Linux Appliance FT to Windows 2008 R2 Media Server

I need a solution

Hi all,

I have a 5230 Linux appliance and a Windows 2008 R2 media server with 3 ML6000 tape libraries attached.  Our current infrastructure only allows me 1 GB ethernet from the 5230 to the Medai Server and obviously giving me poor throughput.  Have searched and searched to find out how to set this up, so here I am.

I would like to use FT directly from the 5230 to the Media Server.  The 5230 has the HBA ports and just installed one in my Media Server also. I would like to pass all of my traffic going to tape through FT.  Is this an option for me?   Any input would be most appreciated, our organization is just getting started with this solution so we are not very experienced as of yet.

Thanks in advance...

5230 Appliance - Best Practice for iSCSI SAN backup

$

I need a solution

As the 52xx Appliances do not support iSCSI attach I am just wondering what is seen as best practice for securing VMware data when the datastores reside on an iSCSI attached SAN.

I guess there are two options:

1. Create 1 or more VMware Proxy Backup Servers (Hot-Add) within the ESX environment

2. Install 1 or more physical Proxy Backup Servers (Hot-Add) which have an iSCSI connection to the SAN

Are there any more preferable ways to do this, or if not which of the above is best in terms of functionality and performance ?

Thanks,

AJ.

I need a solution

So I skipped 7.6.0.1 for my appliances.  But my 7.6.0.2 test bed won't let me upgrade my java client from the 7.5.5 version direct to 7.6.0.2.  So it seems I need a copy of the 7.6.0.1 version first.

You link it first, you get a solution check.

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

So I've gone to 2.6.0.2 now that Heartbleed has been addressed.  Why has root been taken away?  I know how to get it back but taking away root is like selling me a car then not letting me drive it.  As a former UNIX admin, I only run NBU on UNIX platforms and I am ALWAYS super-user.

VC VIM transaction log filling up after differential backup

I need a solution

Hi All,

I currently backup lots of VMs with no problems.

We also backup the Virtual Center SQL databases as well using transaction log backups every two hours and then an incremental daily. The strange thing, is that we have been seeing that straight after the incremental backup, we see that the VIM database in VC complains that the transaction log is full up.

The last transaction log backup happens at midnight so the transaction log should be pretty much empty.

My questions are:

What effect does a differential backup have on the VIM database logs? Does anyone have any experience of this?

Is there something you can add to the SQL scripts that would force a transaction log truncate before the differential backup starts?

I have checked that admin guide and best practice but cant really see any reference to this issue.

Configure DMP on appliance 5220 running on v2.6.0.2

I need a solution

Hi all,

Did anyone manage to successfully configure the SAN multi-path to your SAN storage array through the DMP setup on the appliance 5220 v2.6.0.2?

I have an existing case with support and still waiting for backline to assist.

If anyone manages to configure this successfully, can you share with me the relevant documents for me to read up?

Our array is running on active-active mode with ALUA enabled.

However, the appliance now still only detect a primary path with no load balancing and redundacy configured.

Li Xi

I need a solution

Hi All,

We recently upgraded on of our appliance from 2.5.3 to 2.6.0.2. It was a direct upgrade to 2.6.0.2 version. Since the upgrade backups are failing with error 24 and 14 mainly socket errors and we can see winsock error 10060 in bpbkar.

The interesting thing is if we move the backups to the appliance which is not yet upgraded to 2.6.0.2 and is still at 2.5.3 level, the backup goes on fine.

We have opened a case with Symantec and are still struggling for more than a week.

Anyone of you had similar issues after upgrade. Kindly share and advise.

Has anyone ever used Tier 3 Huntsman Audit with Netbackup and Appliances. Would you be able to share your experiences.

What we are looking for is the ability to audit log certain operations within Netbackup. These would include when someone initiates a manual restore or removes a tape from a media pool.

Where would these events get logged anyway? Could I easily redirect them?

I need a solution

Hi,

I'm setting up a new appliance...straight out of the box.

I put in IP address, DNS, gateway, SMTP and email address details...then my browser hang.

On restart, I can't log into the appliance at all.

I get the error 'Login failed. Please contact your System Administrator.'

My set up is that I've connected my laptop to the appliance.

I've tried using different browsers, cleared cache, etc....still giving me the same error.

Please help.
