I need a solution

Hello

Product: NetBackup Appliance 5220

Version: 2.6.0.1

Role: [Master Server, Media Server]

Description: Recieved a data that sent by AIR from Main NetBackup Environment and store to MSDP.

My Appliance has got a problem since 3 day ago. It is too slow when access by Java Console and Web Console. Almost commands on SSH also got a problem too. (Even reboot or shutdown command)

21-Apr-15 2-41-07 PM.jpg

Later, I found system root path(/) is full and maybe caused by /tmp references from https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH217535.html

21-Apr-15 11-12-56 AM.jpg

From document, it suggest to update version to 2.6.0.3 but Will it cause any problems with AIR? (Main NetBackup Environment also 7.6.0.1)

I try to manually delete /tmp inner files but Permission not passed.

How can I resolve this problem?

NDMP FC and Ethernet Transport together

I need a solution

Hi All,

I have an Appliance functioning as a master/media. There is an existing ndmp configuration with a Netapp device running over FC to a tape library.

I want to use the Appliance as a ndmp target backing up the same Netapp but over ethernet. Is it possible to run the both configurations simultaneously?

Thanks

MSDP has no images yet 94% full

I need a solution

I encountered a situation where the NBU 5220 I was replicating to via AIR was 94% full, even though I had expired all of the images from it.  For expediency, I just blew away the disk pool and re-created it to get the desired results.  My question is: what do I look for in the future because I know this will more than likely happen again?

I did do the 'nbdelete -allvolumes -force' to reclaim the space after the images were expired, but to no avail.

Thoughts?

I need a solution

Hi All,

I am facing backup failure issue with multiple windows 2008 R2 servers which is failing with error 13.

Master server: HPUX, NBU version: 7.5.0.6
Media server: HPUX, NBU version: 7.5.0.6
Client server: windows 2008, NBU version 7.5.0.4
Storage destination: DDBoost

Issue details: If backups run without multi stream backups failing for servers with error 13, iam feeling strange that how it is possible, if backups run in multi streaming its completing successfully but when we run jobs without multi stream, jobs getting fail with error 13.

If we run job in multistream bpbkar log s writing , without multistream bpbkar is not writing single byte of data and also its stuck in connecting state.

Connectivity is working fine i have verified from master and media servers.

ping
Telnet
btestbpcd
bpclntcmd from client also fine.

Below is the job logs, kindly refer and suggest me if anything that can be done.

one more strange thing is if i run backups with prod IP jobs running fine in multistream and without multistream :)

Replicate Adv Disk backup between remote masters

I need a solution

I have a situation where I need to backup 3TB of compressed data on a regular basis.  I have two 5220 appliances both acting as Master/Media servers.  I really don't want it sitting in my Dedupe pool, so I'm trying to take advantage of the 3.5TB of Advanced Disk storage that I have.  What I would like to do is to have one appliance backup the data and keep it for a week and have it copied over to the remote master and stay for another week, about 2 weeks total retention.  Any thoughts on how to do this?  I thought I could back it up to the Dedup pool on the local master, duplicate it to AdvDisk and replicate to the remote master, but that doesn't seem to be working.  I know I will have to use the Dedup pool for AIR, but I want that backup to expire immediately if possible.

How to scratch/clean an appliance...

I need a solution

I have a v2.5.2 N5220 appliance which I need to decommission, and later re-deploy.

It is/was the 4TB model with no disk shelves.

It was previously configured as a master/media with an MSDP pool (no advanced disk).

I need to ensure, and be absolutely sure, that any old backup data cannot be scavenged.

I'm confortable with re-imageing via IPMI.

So, I'm looking for guidance on how to be sure that no old backup data can be scavenged.

1) Does anyone have any tips/notes/pointers/advice?

2) Do I need to somehow reformat the storage?

3) Or does re-imaging to factory state somehow permanently render all old MSDP data storage disk blocks useless?

4) Is there a documented process?

Thanks.

How to Backup Up KMS files

I need a solution

Hi, our customer's appliance is NBU5230 appliance (2.6.0.3), which is the only NBU server in their environment. Recently they plan to implement KMS in the appliance. I did some checking and found for normal master server, we can back up the KMS files (KMS_DATA.dat, KMS_HMKF.dat and KMS_KPKF.dat) for DR purpose.

My question is:

For the appliance, how to back up these files? Thanks in advance.

I need a solution

Hi Team,

Please I need your expert advise on this solution:

Customer has proposed implementing backup solution via NFS; this solution is based on having the centralized server IPs & file path where to send the backups to.

We currently have Symantec NetBackup 5230 Appliance installed in this customer datacenter.

Question: Will NetBackup 5230 Appliance support mount points from network file systems (NFS). This will enable customer backup their network file system data to the central storage location, which is on the NBU appliance.

Thanks in advance,

Felix

Problem with NBU Plugin from remote master recovery

I need a solution

Hi All,

I have NBU plugin enabled on my VC in site A. It works fine in restoring VM images from backup server A.

I have SLP configured that replicate to a remote master server in site B.

I have added the authentication token generated on master server in site B to the plugin and it added fine. I can browse the backups on the master server in site B but when I want to restore them to site A, I get an error on the pre-recovery checks. A red cross with the words "proxy credentials"

I did open 443 and 9445 FW ports from A to B. Anyone know why this is happening?

Need clarification on job details detailed status regarding client side dedupe

Environment:  netbackup appliance (master/media), 2.6.0.3, client is physical box running windows server 2012 standard.  This is a file share, which is configured as a synthetic backup.

Where my confusion lies, is in the reporting on the daily incremental--

04/29/2015 01:17:19 - Info crhnbu01 (pid=3673) StorageServer=PureDiskNETBACKUP01; Report=PDDO Stats (multi-threaded stream used) for (NETBACKUP01): scanned: 177340597 KB, CR sent: 727843 KB, CR sent over FC: 0 KB, dedup: 99.6%, cache disabled
04/29/2015 01:17:19 - Info bpbrm (pid=3398) validating image for client crhsfiles1.nterprise.crhs.net
04/29/2015 01:17:41 - Info bpbkar (pid=5560) done. status: 0: the requested operation was successfully completed
04/29/2015 01:17:41 - end writing; write time: 2:13:48
the requested operation was successfully completed  (0)

Current kilobytes written is shown as 177092457, whereas the CR sent is 727843 KB, so which is actually being transmitted over the network?

Second, the client is configured for client side dedupe, and per the dedupe guide should display two deduplication rates where I only have one dedupe rate.  What am I missing?

This appliance is used as Target Replication from 3 other netbackup sites. This also connected to tape library as well. We logges a case with Symantec as well ( Case id - 08693217) but they didn't find anything yet. We observered last night backups started failing with 24, 87 and running very slow throughput. We ran backup for same clients from other appliance and it is running fine. So seems some issue with this appliance.

We changed TCP time stamp as well but not getting any improvement on Speed.

 1. Make a backup copy of the file to edit:
      # cp "/etc/sysctl.conf  /etc/sysctl.conf.tcptimestampsoff"

  2. Then in "/etc/sysctl.conf", change the line that reads:
     net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 0
    To instead read:
    net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 1
    Save the file and execute:
    # sysctl -p

Once we restart netbackup service the backup running fine and after sometime it slows down. PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!!

Duplicate backups from dedupe disk to tape for encryption

I need a solution

Hi, our customer is using NBU 5230 appliance (2.6.0.3), which works as both master and media server in their environment. All the clients are Windows clients and are backed up to the dedupe disk in the appliance. The appliance has connected to a IBM tape library. They use NetBackup Vault to duplicate backups from the dedupe disk to tape for offsite store.

Recently they wants to implement KMS in the appliance. I understand that if they back up directly to tapes in the ENCR_xx pool, the backup images will be encrpted.

My question is:

If they use Vault to duplicate backup images from dedupe disk to the tapes in ENCR_xx pool, will the backup images in the tape be encrypted? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to secure communications between the Java console and the 5230 appliance?  Hoping for a TLS session before typing in username and password.

Got following errors in our details on a solaris backup. Im on an appliance, 5220. We are running 7.6.1.1. Link to 2060019 in error message is a cyclical redirect. I saw in other posts that this was a problem in the pre 7.5.0.4 world, but was supposed to be fixed in 7.5.0.5. Which is not our experience. Is there are work around for this? Anyone else seen it in the post 7.6.1.1 version?

Hi, one of my customers is considering use of SAN Client. Is it possible to use SAN Client and Oracle Intelligent Policy together?

I believe it should be possible, because SAN Clent is about transport, OIP is about backup configuration, but since I've never tried before nor I have the equipments to try right now, I'm asking here.

Thanks.

Hi All,

I am fairly new to the backup world and only have knowledge of providing support on the software itself.

Does anyone know the procedure to set the time on the control panel on a Symantec 5220 netbackup appliance?

Note: On linux level the time is correct, only on the physical display itself the time is incorrect.

Thanks
