Hi Support,

Please I need your urgent assistance.

I am setting up a new NetBackup environment with two NBU 5230 appliances. 1x5230 will serve as the Master/Media server and the other 1x5230 will serve as Media server.

The customer provided a private network, where IPs of both appliances can ping each other. However, after successfully setting up the appliance "Master/Media" I also try to setup the 2nd appliance as "Media server" but I got the errors below:

Could not check if master server 'mbunbuapp01' has any storage objects for storage server 'mutnbuapp01'.

Could not find EMM server of master server 'mbunbuapp01' (48:client hostname could not be found).

NB: After setting up the 1st appliance master/media server, I did added the FQHN of the Media server to be to Settings > NetBackup AdditionalServers Add media-server of the Master/Media, but I still got the errors above.

Because of the above error, I have not been able to setup the 2nd appliance as "Media server" which is suppose to communicate with appliance "Master/Media server"

I also notice ports 5900 and 7578 were not open on the Master/Media server, could this be responsible for the applaince Media server not communication with the Master server.

I need a solution

We have Two 5230 Appliance at Production site as one Master and one Media role. Similarly two at DR site with one Master, one Media role.

We want to setup AIR between Production and DR between appliance.

Then we want to take the backup of Esxi server VM's and replicate to the DR site and wanted to restore to DR site on another Esxi server.

Will it be possible and how? Please share your precious adives.

Hi,

We are having four 5230 appliances. Two at production site as Master/Media and two at DR site as Master Media.

We want to setup AIR replication between them. After that we want to take backup of vmware virtual machine, it will be replicated to the DR and then restore that VM to Esxi server available at DR site.

Please advice how to be workable. is it possible ? What step we should taken to do it successful.

Hi,

Env:  N5230 v2.6.0.3 (soon to be patched to v2.6.0.4).

Is it possible to specify a port number for SMTP authenticated emails?

I know classic SMTP uses port 25, and I understand that typically email admins like to have SMTP authentication for emails take place on port 587.  Is it possible to configure an appliance to use port 587?

Maybe it is possible to specify, within the CLIsh, the target SMTP server IP address with a port number, e.g.:

      10.10.10.10:587

...anyone tried that with success?

I’m extremely happy to announce that NetBackup Appliances 2.6.1.1 is now Generally Available!

NetBackup Appliances 2.6.1.1 is the latest update for NetBackup 52xx (and 5330!) Applainces and the equivalent Appliance patch release to NetBackup 7.6.1.1.  It can be applied in an upgrade to Appliances running ANY 2.5.x or 2.6.x.x version.

This release includes all 399 fixes included in the NetBackup 7.6.1.1 release, including resolutions for most commonly downloaded EEBs, customer escalations, and critical internally found defects.

Can I create multiple disk pools on a single appliance?

While creating disk pools in Netbackup admin console, there is an option to "use the media servers mentioned below" what does it mean?

I need a solution

Running 2x NB 5220 (48 TB each) @ v. 7.6.0.2. All is well except for one job I'm trying to replicate from our master to the media server. Job size is about 1.6 TB. Everything appears normal,job details show writes occurring, job status hits 100%. Last entry in details is ' Creating OPT_DUP_END marker'.

Progress stops at this point. In Activity Monitor, job shows with an Operation of 'Mounting'. I left the last one running to see if it would free up, made it to 287 hours before a power failure at the remote site killed the job this weekend. Retried again today for troubleshooting.

Looked at the current bpdm log on the media server, last entry for this job is:

 11:02:30.201 [14172] <2> construct_sts_isid: master_server uh-nb-1, client di-nas-1.uh1.com, backup_time 1420034694, copy_number 2, stream_number 0, fragment_number 0, resume_number 34, spl_name NULL

Again, all other duplication jobs are running fine, it's just this big one givieng me trouble.

Anyone have ideas where I should look next?

Hi all!

I have multiple NetBackup 5230 Appliances and I just added new trays, NICs and HBAs. All the rest are working fine, however 1 of my NBU 5230 appliance is showing the flashing green LED (degraded performance).

I accessed it via the web console and see that the hardware monitor is showing no problems.

Hi all,

One of my NetBackup appliances was recently upgraded and after that, it's status LED in the Symantec Remote Management console has been solid amber.

What could be the steps that I can follow in order to resolve this issue? Also, I generated the debug logs via the SRM console and they are encrypted. How do I view them? or are they intended for Symantec Support only?

Hello,

I just recently purchased a Symantec 5230 Appliance and I can't get it to boot.  It throws a buch of errors that says "Volume group "system" not found" and then asks me to fail back to /dev/system/root.  If I choose yes or no the Appliace just dumps me to the shell.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I am planning to upgrade the two Netbackup appliances (NBU5220) in two different datacenters. Is it possible to upgrade the appliances remotely?. Is there any consideration I need to be aware of. The last time I upgraded I had to drive to each location which I want to avoid if possible.

A 5020 appliance is connected to 3 media servers. the 3 media servers are configured as storage servers and puredisk disk pool is created and allowed access to all the 3 media servers
i have created a single storage unit, and selected to use all the 3 media servers for backup.

Similar setup is there in DR as well. I want to replicate all the data from DC to DR.

Can I configure AIR between 2 PDDO appliances? (5020 appliance)

or should I use MSDP to perform AIR?

I have the following upgrade scenario with NBU and 5220 appliances, and am wondering how much of this I can perform concurrently.

Windows 2008R2 Master Server - recently upgraded to NBU 7611 - all OK

5220 Media Server 1 (72TB) - 2.5.3

5220 Media Server 2 (36TB) - 2.5.3

I am moving the appliances to 2611 and am wondering do I have to stop all activity on Master and both appliances and upgrade them consecutively or can I stop all activity and upgrade the two appliances at the same time ?  They are both Media ONLY, and the Master is already at 7611 so there should be no version issues.

  I have tow doubts about 5230 appliance (ver. 6.5):

          1) To activate de BOMC option is not neccesary a license, is it?

          2) Turn on the "BOMC option" cause some kind of interruption in the appliance (Stop de active policies, reboot the appliance....)

I need a solution

Hello,

I made a very rookie mistake and added a "." before the search domains for my DNS information. I cannot resolve other hosts now.

I tried going in and removing it hostname.Network> DNS Delete SearchDomain .seachhere

However it will not let me start a line with "."

I also can no longer login via the web console so I need to have this fixed via command line.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a customer who wants to re-register his NetBackup Appliance 5020. The person under whom the appliance was registered has left the Organization. Customer would now like to change or transfer registration to his name from the x-employee.
